The CHALLENGE

A dated site that was losing bookings it had already won.

Out of Bounds is a family activity centre on Golfers Lane in Angmering, West Sussex. Indoors there is Clip ‘n Climb, ten pin bowling, soft play and laser tag. Outdoors there is adventure golf, adventure nets, high ropes and jumping pillows. Add a café, birthday parties, private hire and the Active Kids holiday camps, and it is a full day out rather than a single attraction.

The website was not keeping up with it. The design was dated, it did not behave properly on a phone, and the pages did little to convey what any of the activities were actually like. Families arriving from search could not picture the day they were being sold.

The booking journey was the bigger problem. It was harder to complete than it needed to be, and it sold one activity at a time with nothing prompting a family to add another. Tracking was unreliable, so it was difficult to see where in the journey bookings were being lost. Retargeting ran through a basic emailing system that did little more than send. Out of Bounds turned to Rococo to fix the whole route from search to booking.

What needed to change

Dated design with responsive issues, so the experience fell apart on the phones most families were booking from.

Activity pages listed that things existed without showing what they were like, and did not rank for what families search.

Booking was harder than it needed to be, and nothing prompted a family to add a second activity to their day.

Unreliable tracking made it hard to see where bookings were being lost, or which activities were driving them.

Our partnership

A two year growth partnership, not a one off rebuild.

Rococo worked with Out of Bounds from 2024 to 2026 across design, development, SEO, conversion and email. Rather than treating the site, the search visibility and the booking journey as separate jobs, we worked on the single route a family takes from a search result to a confirmed booking.

That meant rebuilding the pages so they sold the activities properly, making the booking itself simpler, and then using email to bring families back rather than waiting for them to return on their own.

Site, search, booking and email, working as one.

One connected programme across the website, organic visibility, the booking flow and retention, so every part of the journey pulls in the same direction.

A rebuilt site that represents each activity properly, on every screen size.

Pages restructured and written to rank for what families actually search.

A simpler route to booking, with the right activities offered alongside it.

Migrated off a basic emailing tool onto Klaviyo, with newsletters that get opened.

THE STRATEGY

Rebuilding the whole route from search to confirmed booking.

We treated this as one journey rather than four separate projects. A family searching for something to do in half term should find the right page, understand what the activity is actually like, book it in as few steps as possible, and be offered the things that go well alongside it.

That meant every page earning its place in search, a booking flow stripped back to the essentials, and a retention channel capable of bringing families back for the next school holiday.

Rebuilding every page around the activity

Each activity was given a page that shows what it is actually like rather than confirming that it exists. Clip ‘n Climb, laser tag, high ropes, adventure golf and the rest were rebuilt with the imagery, detail and answers a parent needs before committing, and the whole site was rebuilt to behave properly on a phone.

Ranking for what families actually search

We restructured and rewrote the site around the terms families use when they are looking for a day out in Sussex, rather than the language the business used internally. Every activity earned a page capable of ranking on its own, and organic traffic grew by 403%.

Simplifying the booking journey

The route from landing on an activity page to a confirmed booking was stripped back to the essentials. Fewer steps, clearer choices, and a flow that holds up on a phone, which is where most of these decisions are made. Online booking conversion rose by 311%.

Selling the whole day, not one activity

The old journey sold a single activity at a time. We built upselling into the flow, so a family booking bowling is offered the things that naturally go with it. That raised the value of a booking and made the day easier to plan in one go. Party bookings grew by 248%.

Moving from basic email to Klaviyo

Out of Bounds were retargeting through a basic emailing system that did little more than send. We migrated them onto Klaviyo and built a proper newsletter programme around school holidays, seasonal events and the activity passes. It now averages a 68% open rate.

The Results

One journey, from search to booking

Across the two years the website went from a dated brochure to the main sales channel for the centre, with search, the booking flow and the email programme working together rather than separately.

The gains compound. Better rankings bring more of the right families in, a simpler journey converts more of them, and the upselling and email work raise what each visit is worth.

  • 113% increase in online bookings
  • 248% increase in party bookings
  • 403% increase in organic traffic
  • 311% increase in online booking conversion rate
  • 68% average newsletter open rate after the move to Klaviyo
  • Two years of partnership across design, development, SEO, CRO and email
