THE position

Most replatforms fail on the things nobody scoped.

Shopify Partners logo

A replatform is usually sold on the new features. It is almost never lost on them. It is lost on the redirect map nobody owned, the product taxonomy that came across as it was, and the three months of organic revenue that quietly did not come back.

Rococo is a confirmed Shopify Partner, and we plan the search side of a migration before the design side. The people who map your redirects are the people who have to explain the traffic afterwards, which changes how carefully it gets done. If you are building new rather than moving, our Shopify development, Shopify Plus and Shopify SEO services cover that instead.

eCommerce replatforming services, built around not losing ground.

Every eCommerce replatforming project is shaped around what you are moving from, what has to survive the move, and what the store needs to do afterwards.

The most common replatform we handle. Product data, customer records, order history, URL structure and rankings mapped before anything is switched off. Still deciding? Our Magento vs Shopify comparison covers when the move is worth it and when it is not.

Moving off WordPress and WooCommerce without losing the content and organic visibility the site has built up, blog and category structure included.

Redirect mapping is where most migrations lose money. Every old URL matched to a new one, tested before launch and monitored after it.

Products, variants, images, collections, customers and order history moved across cleanly, with the taxonomy rebuilt rather than dumped in as it was.

Standard Shopify to Shopify Plus, or a Plus to Plus consolidation. Usually driven by B2B, checkout control or multiple storefronts rather than traffic alone.

ERP, PIM, WMS and CRM reconnected on the new platform, so the replatform does not break the systems the rest of the business runs on.

A replatform is the one chance to fix speed properly. Templates, images and app load handled during the build rather than patched afterwards.

The first ninety days after a migration decide whether it worked. Rankings, traffic and revenue tracked against the old baseline, not guessed at.

WHERE MIGRATIONS GO WRONG

The same six problems, in almost every Shopify migration.

Shopify is rarely the problem. What was scoped, and what was quietly left out, almost always is. These are the issues we find most often when we audit a store after a migration.

No redirect map, or one written after launch

Rankings lost in a migration nobody planned for

Product taxonomy carried over unchanged and untested

Structured data and metadata lost in the move

Blog and content pages dropped to save scope

Launched, then nobody watching the rankings

WHY ROCOCO

You work with directors, not juniors.

Strategy is owned by a director, and the people who plan your migration are the people accountable for the traffic on the other side of it.

SEO sits with the developers

SEO sits with the developers rather than reviewing their work afterwards, so redirect and template decisions are made once and made correctly.

Measured on revenue

We report on rankings, sessions and revenue against the pre-migration baseline, because that is the only number that answers whether the move worked.

Audit before action

Every migration starts with a paid audit and a full crawl of the existing store, so the redirect map is built on real data rather than a sitemap export.

Migration without the drop

Redirects, templates, structured data and internal linking planned before launch, so a replatform does not cost you organic revenue.

No lost visibility

A store that keeps its visibility through the move, and a baseline to prove it did.

Process

How we run a Shopify migration.

Rococo works best with brands that treat a replatform as a commercial risk to be managed rather than a development ticket. Every migration is scoped after a crawl and audit, with post-launch monitoring and growth handled on a retainer.

A full crawl and baseline of the current store: every indexed URL, ranking, template and integration recorded before anything moves.

Agree the redirect map, the template structure and what is deliberately not coming across, in writing, before build starts.

Build, migrate the data, test the redirects on staging, then launch with analytics and Search Console ready rather than added later.

Ninety days of monitoring against the pre-migration baseline, so anything that slips is caught in weeks rather than discovered in a quarterly report.

Platforms we migrate from

Where you are moving from changes the plan.

Every platform loses data in a different place. These are the moves we handle most, and the part of each that needs the most care.

Magento to Shopify

Magento 1, Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce. The risk is the URL structure: layered navigation, category paths and attribute filters that have been ranking for years and do not exist on Shopify. We crawl every indexed URL before scoping and map the lot. Our Magento vs Shopify guide covers whether to move at all.

WooCommerce to Shopify

Products are the easy part. The WordPress content around them, blog posts, landing pages and category copy, is usually where the organic traffic lives, and it has to be rebuilt on Shopify or kept on WordPress and linked properly. Plugin data such as bookings, memberships and custom fields is mapped item by item. See Shopify vs WooCommerce.

BigCommerce to Shopify

Categories become collections, option sets become variants and metafields, and the 301 rules already living in BigCommerce have to come across too, or years of old redirects break on launch day. Storefront APIs and headless setups are rebuilt rather than ported.

Wix and Squarespace to Shopify

Neither platform gives you full control of redirects or exports everything cleanly, so we pull the catalogue and content out early, rebuild the image library at proper quality and set the redirects on the Shopify side. Our free Shopify migration redirect generator turns the old and new URL lists into the import file.

Visualsoft, custom builds and legacy UK platforms

Proprietary platforms rarely have a clean export. We work from database dumps, feeds and crawls to rebuild the catalogue, and we agree with your current provider how long the old site stays live for verification before anything is switched off.

Shopify to Shopify Plus, and store consolidation

Moving up to Plus, or folding several stores into one. Networks Centre came to us with four websites and 18,700 SKUs and left with one B2B platform, every redirect mapped and ranked keywords up 383%. Detail on our Shopify Plus agency page, and our Shopify Plus migration guide walks through the steps.

What moves

What we migrate, and what honestly cannot move as it is.

Migrated on every project
  • Products, variants, pricing, stock levels, images and alt text
  • Categories and collections, including the rules that populate them
  • Customers, addresses, tags and marketing consent
  • Order history, so customer accounts and lifetime value are intact
  • Discount codes, gift card balances and store credit
  • Reviews, via your review platform’s export and re-import
  • Blog posts, pages, metadata and structured data
  • Every indexed URL, redirected one to one
Handled differently, and we say so up front
  • Customer passwords. Shopify cannot import password hashes from another platform, so customers set a new password on first login. We plan the email sequence for that rather than letting it surprise anyone.
  • Active subscriptions. Saved payment tokens have to be moved with your payment provider and subscription app, on a schedule, not copied.
  • Theme and plugin customisations. Rebuilt for Shopify, not ported. This is usually where the scope conversation happens, and where we recommend dropping features nobody uses.
  • App data. Loyalty points, wishlists and similar live in the app, not the platform, and each one needs its own export route.
Timeline and scope

How long it takes and what it costs.

You get a fixed proposal after the crawl and audit, not an estimate that grows. These are the bands most projects fall into.

Straightforward

8 to 10 weeks. One store, a catalogue under a few thousand SKUs, no ERP or warehouse integration, a theme built from a proven base rather than fully custom.

Integrated

12 to 16 weeks. Larger catalogues, B2B pricing and accounts, an ERP, EPOS or 3PL connection, or a move to Shopify Plus with checkout customisation. The integration mapping is done before design starts.

Consolidation or headless

16 weeks plus. Several stores into one, multiple markets and currencies, or a headless build where the traffic pattern justifies it. Networks Centre’s four sites into one sat here.

What the price includes

The full crawl and organic baseline, the redirect map, theme design and build, product, customer and order migration, integration setup, QA on real data, the launch itself, and 90 days of ranking and revenue monitoring against the baseline. Shopify’s own plan fees sit outside it; our Shopify fee calculator shows what those will be for your volume.

After launch

Most brands keep us on a rolling monthly growth retainer covering Shopify SEO, paid, Klaviyo and conversion work on the new store. Jake Boase and Matthew Jones, the co-founders, scope every migration and stay on the account. Everything we do for Shopify stores is on our Shopify agency page.

SELECTED WORK

Real brands, real growth.

Rococo works with brands replatforming onto Shopify who need the build, the search side and the commercial outcome owned by one team rather than three.

Name

Shopify migration agency FAQs.

What does a Shopify migration agency do?

A Shopify migration agency moves an existing store onto Shopify from another platform without losing the traffic, revenue and data it already has. In practice that means crawling and baselining the old store, mapping every URL to a new one, migrating products, customers and order history, rebuilding templates and structured data, then monitoring rankings through launch and afterwards.

How long does a Magento to Shopify migration take?

Most Magento to Shopify migrations run eight to sixteen weeks, driven by catalogue size, the number of integrations and how much custom functionality has to be rebuilt rather than replaced. The crawl and redirect mapping happen first and are not the part to compress, because that is where migrations lose organic revenue.

Will migrating to Shopify hurt our SEO?

Not if the migration is planned properly, and this is the single most common way replatforms go wrong. Redirect mapping, template structure, structured data and internal linking are handled before launch rather than after, and rankings are monitored against a pre-migration baseline so anything that moves is caught in weeks. Expect some short-term fluctuation on any replatform. Expect it to recover.

Can you migrate from WooCommerce to Shopify?

Yes. WooCommerce to Shopify is one of the most common moves we handle. The complication is usually the WordPress content rather than the products: blog posts, category pages and landing pages that carry organic visibility need mapping and rebuilding on Shopify, not quietly dropping to save scope.

How much does an eCommerce replatforming project cost?

Migration projects start from £20,000, with the final figure depending on catalogue size, the integrations involved and how much has to be rebuilt rather than moved. Post-launch monitoring is handled on a retainer, agreed after the audit.

Can you work alongside our in house team?

Yes. We often work alongside an in house team or an existing agency, either owning the whole migration or taking the search and redirect side while your developers handle the build. If you are considering a replatform and are not sure it is justified yet, we will tell you that too.

What data can be migrated, and what cannot?

Products, variants, images, collections, customers, order history, discount codes, gift card balances, reviews, blog content and every indexed URL all move. Two things cannot move as they are. Customer passwords, because Shopify cannot import another platform’s password hashes, so customers set a new one on first login. And active subscription payment tokens, which have to be transferred with your payment provider rather than copied. We plan both into the launch rather than discovering them afterwards.

Do we need Shopify Plus to migrate?

No. Most migrations land on standard Shopify. Plus earns its place when you need to change the checkout itself, run B2B and direct customers in one store, sell across several markets, or your revenue is high enough that the lower transaction rate pays for the licence. Our Shopify fee calculator does that sum, and our Shopify Plus agency page covers the decision.

Will we keep our reviews and order history?

Yes. Order history is imported so customer accounts show past purchases and your lifetime value data survives. Reviews are exported from your current review platform and re-imported on Shopify, matched to the migrated products. If you are changing review platform at the same time, we handle that mapping too.

Can our EPOS, ERP or warehouse system connect to Shopify?

Almost always. We have connected Shopify to Dynamics 365 Business Central, Sage, Brightpearl, Unleashed and warehouse systems, and Shopify POS replaces most standalone tills. The integration is mapped before design starts, because it decides how products, stock and orders have to be structured.

Is there any downtime at launch?

No. The new store is built and tested on a separate Shopify domain with real data, the final data sync runs shortly before cutover, and the DNS change moves traffic across in minutes. Redirects are live from the first request. We launch mid week, in the morning, with both teams available, and never on the day before a promotion.

What is included in the from £20,000 price?

The full crawl and organic baseline, the redirect map, theme design and build, product, customer and order migration, integration setup, QA on real data, the launch, and 90 days of ranking and revenue monitoring against the baseline. Shopify’s own plan and app fees sit outside it. Extra scope usually comes from custom functionality that has to be rebuilt, or from multiple stores being consolidated.

What happens to our apps and subscriptions?

Each app is assessed on whether Shopify or a Shopify app does the job natively. Loyalty points, wishlists and similar data live in the app rather than the platform, so each needs its own export route. Subscriptions are migrated with the payment provider on a schedule so nobody’s renewal fails. You usually leave the migration with fewer apps than you arrived with.

What support do you offer after launch?

Every migration includes 90 days of monitoring against the pre-launch baseline, with rankings, organic revenue and Core Web Vitals checked weekly and anything that moves fixed. After that most brands keep us on a growth retainer from £4,000 a month, rolling monthly, covering Shopify SEO, paid media, Klaviyo and conversion work on the new store.

Who actually does the migration?

Jake Boase and Matthew Jones, the co-founders, scope every migration and stay on the account. The crawl, redirect mapping and SEO sit with the same people building the theme, which is the point. There is no offshore build team and no handover after the pitch.
